I joined the U.S. Army in 1976.  During my service I was assigned to the 1/75 Rangers (Airborne) and then to the 2/9th Armored/Air Cavalry.  Qualifications included Airborne, Emergency Medical Technician, Jungle Operations Warfare, and Expert classification for Rifle and Hand grenades.

In 1980 I transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves.  I began attending college.   By 1986 I was a Commissioned Security Officer, Emergency Medical Technician, and a Licensed Nurse for the State of Texas.  In 1986 I joined the Austin Fire Department. I had also completed the U.S. Army Drill Sergeants Academy and both the Primary Leadership Development Course [PLDC] and Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course [BNCOC].  By 1994 I had completed the U.S. Army Instructor Training Program and began teaching both the PLDC and BNOC programs with the U.S. Army.  I had also completed and received the Expert Qualification for the Pistols.

In 1990 I completed the Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Program for the Army Reserves.

In 1994 I took over as the Reserves Component NCOIC [Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge] of the Emergency Room at Brooke Army Medical Center.   I was temporarily assigned as the Assistant NCOIC of a medical group; stationed in Suriname [South America] designed to take refugees and wounded from the Haitian Intervention by U.S. Forces.

In 1996 I was activated again by the Army Reserves to provide medical support in Hohenfels Germany [The Box].

In 1998 I was activated again by the Army Reserves for 6 months to provide medical support for Parks Reserve Forces Training Facility in Livermore California.  There I served as the NCOIC of the Troop Medical Clinic.  While station at PRFTF I was allowed to attend the National Wildland Firefighting Training.

In 1999 I left the U.S. Army for retirement.  In 2004, I joined the Texas State Military to serve as a medic for the Military Police.  After 6 months I accepted a position as an MP and began training for Law Enforcement.   I completed my Texas Concealed Handgun training and the MP training at that time.   I was assigned as the NCOIC of an MP team assigned to East Texas to provide security during Hurricane Katrina.  Afterwards, I attended and completed the Texas Tactical Police Officer's program for the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training [ALERRT] presented by the Hays County Sheriff's Department and Texas State University at San Marcos.

In 2007 I completed the training for, and began teaching Pistols and Shotguns for the National Rifle Association and the Texas Private Security Bureau.  In 2008 I completed and began teaching the Texas Concealed Handgun License Program.

I left the Texas State military after serving 4 years.  In 2009 I retired from the Austin Fire Department and moved to East Texas.  There, I attended and completed the Police Academy at Northeast Texas Community College and received my TCLEOSE License.

In 2011 I began working for the Gregg County Sheriff Department.  Although Commissioned as a Peace Officer, I was assigned to the County Jail because of my Nursing License.  The experience of working in the County Jail is something that I will never forget.

Today, I serve as a volunteer for the Pittsburg VFD and the Chief of the Center Point Community VFD.  I also serve as the President of the Kiwanis Club here in Camp County.

This year I will be returning to College.  My wife and I both agree that I retired too soon in life.

Next Stop: Degree in Agriculture.  Maybe even Veterinarian??
